What are You Reading Monday?

Mon Reading Button PB to YA

It’s Monday! What are you Reading? is a meme hosted by Jen and Kellee at TeachMentorTexts.  It’s a wonderful opportunity for readers to share what picture books, mentor texts, and young adult novels that they have been reading and what titles are to come in the upcoming week.  I myself am looking forward to getting back to my YA roots, so this is a great place to start!

Books I’m Currently Reading:

The Selection by Kiera Cass

10507293For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn’t want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she’s made for herself–and realizes that the life she’s always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson

12868761Jenny Lawson realized that the most mortifying moments of our lives—the ones we’d like to pretend never happened—are in fact the ones that define us. In the #1 New York Times bestseller, Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson takes readers on a hilarious journey recalling her bizarre upbringing in rural Texas, her devastatingly awkward high school years, and her relationship with her long-suffering husband, Victor. Chapters include: “Stanley the Magical, Talking Squirrel”; “A Series of Angry Post-It Notes to My Husband”; “My Vagina Is Fine. Thanks for Asking”; “And Then I Snuck a Dead Cuban Alligator on an Airplane.” Pictures with captions (no one would believe these things without proof) accompany the text.

    • It’s very funny, but very adult in nature. The audiobook is great; the narrator is excellent. If you’ve read any of Jenny Lawson’s blogs then you will have an idea about the adult content.
