Welcome to my, apparently, bi-monthly blog. And since it’s the beginning of a new month, I thought I would take advantage of the timely new beginning to make a public statement for my new set of goals.
I know that there are a lot more important aspects of my life, but one of the most influential components that keeps me balanced and sane is my running schedule; not just running, but the schedule. I have noticed that I need to take it down a notch in the gym because it’s been noticeably more difficult for me to recover, both mentally and physically, from the extra efforts required. So, with that being said, my first goal is:
Goal #1: Weekday runs will be no more than 6 miles; weekend no more than 10 miles. My half-marathon, yet to be decided, won’t be until June. Time, it’s on my side. So be chill, ok?
2. Weight Training
I hate it. The word “SQUAT” is the sound that people make when they throw up. “It’s working if it’s burning,” isn’t something you want your doctor to say, so it’s not appropriate in any other facet of your life. However, the shit works! I’ve noticed that my slacking off in the weights department has resulted in slightly droopier body parts…slightly. I don’t want to need a back-bra, so onto the next goal.
Goal #2: Weight training with a DVD at least three days a week.
3. Workin’ 9 to 5 and other Dolly Parton Falsies
I stand by my previous statements about loving my job, so this is not the typical, “take this job and shove it,” post. But I do know that I need to make some adjustments to my priorities. I’ve come to realize that there are some lingering ideologies about free time left over from living/working in the lower 48. Despite not having the same weekend options for spending my off-the-clock hours, I still like the idea of having them to myself. I think that I would truly benefit from spending more time during the week than taking chunks of time out of Saturday and Sunday. For example, instead of spending 4-5 hours on a Saturday, spreading the love throughout the week wouldn’t hurt at all. Plus, I’m also adding about 4 hours a week for my master’s course, which I’m digging as well. Yea, I’m that chick who gets off on spending more time on work and school. Don’t you just want to punch me in the face sometimes???
Goal #3: Plan on staying at school until 6pm three nights a week.
I am not happy that my beloved blog has taken the backseat on my priority list. Hell, it’s not even in the backseat. Fancy Oatmeal has become the Kevin McCalister of my life. I think that this is all due in part to me not creating the correct proportions for the other attention-grabbers in my life. Hopefully with the re-prioritization of goals #1-3, I’ll be able to spend more time on the blog.
Goal #4: Update Fancy Oatmeal once during the week, and once on the weekend.
