What I love about oatmeal-Part I

Hello and welcome to my blog entitled, “Fancy Oatmeal.” Now you may be asking yourself why would I want to devote an entire blog to oatmeal. Well there are many different reasons why the Porridge of Power is my go-to in the A.M. It’s simple: oatmeal freakin’ rocks!

But let me be more specific, because I can tell that there are doubters out there.

1. Versatility
Some people will turn up their nose at a bowl of oatmeal because by itself, there is not a lot of flavor. However, there is no limit to what you can add to oatmeal to jazz up it up. One of my favorite things to do is try to add a different fruit to my morning meal. I have been known to add apples, peaches, bananas, blueberries, cherries, strawberries, blackberries, mangoes, pumpkin puree, raisins, dates, prunes (it was a total mistake, don’t judge me).

It’s Healthy
There is no denying the nutrition value of eating old fashioned oatmeal. In one bowl of old fashioned oats, you gain a heart-healthy dose of YUMM-O along with:
4 grams of Fiber
6 grams of Protein
rich in Iron
0 Cholesterol
3.6 grams of Fat, but they are the good kinds-monosaturated and polysaturated

3. It’s easy to make
It doesn’t take a gourmet chef to make this breakfast dish. My culinary talents aren’t that high on the evolution scale; my greatest ally in the kitchen is the microwave. All that preparing oatmeal requires is pouring ingredients in a bowl, giving it a little stir, and popping it into the magical microwave. Some people will get fancier and cook it on the stovetop, but not I. My philosophy in life is K.I.S.S. – Keep It Simple, Slick.

4. It sticks with you
When trying to lose weight, some people think that less is more, so the will either have a piece of fruit or skip breakfast all together in the mornings. What I like about oatmeal is that you get a satisfying meal with a handful of calories that keeps you feeling full all morning long. It isn’t something that abandons you at 10:00am and leaves you distracted by growls from your stomach.

If oatmeal were a girl, she’d be the town heartthrob. She could fit in wherever she goes and feel totally comfortable and confident in her new surroundings. A night at the opera is never too fancy, and yet she loves to throw on jeans and a t-shirt for the opening pitch of a baseball game. She’s healthy, full of good things that brings out the best in those around her. She’s low-maitenance. There are no games to be played; what you see is what you get. You won’t be waiting on her for hours to get her hair just right. A simple ponytail and she’s ready to leave the house. And she’s loyal. She won’t leave you for the next best thing. Through thick and thin, she’ll be there by your side.
