Happy Friday Everyone! Cheers to the weekend and let’s get this Five Things Friday going!
1. I am so thrilled that Friday has rolled around because this afternoon Dear Hubby and I are going to travel a bit to visit some friends. These aren’t just “some friends” either; Dear Hubby and Mitch have been best friends since elementary school, and were best men in each other’s weddings.
And I cannot tell you how much I am looking forward to spending more time with Mitch’s wife, Amanda (great name, BTW). She’s one of those women who make you feel like you’ve been friends for years and is so kind and considerate. Love this couple!
2. I knew that I would have to get in a powerful workout – screw packing a bag, sweating at the gym is the perfect way to get ready for a weekend away. I went to one of my favorite sources for an upper body workout – Julie @ Peanut Butter Fingers!
Actually, I knew this workout from one of Julie’s pins on Pinterest, and let me say that it totally rocked my upper body muscles!!!
Honestly enough, one of my favorite pieces of this Abs ‘n’ Arms Workout was the assisted pull up! I have never been able to do a pull up in my entire life, both awake and in my dreams, so the fact that I was able to do 45 assisted pull ups made my day.
3. While I was poking my nose around Pinterest, I also found a new blog that I started following this morning: Blonde Ponytail and her running/workout page. I had two options for my run this morning: 6 miles or intervals. When I found the 3 in 30 HIIT workout, I knew that I was sold on intervals. I modified it in a way to fit my level and ended up with the following routine:
At around the 15 minute mark I knew that I was spending too much time at the 6.0 pace in my recovery from the 8.0 pace, so instead of only running for 30 seconds at top speed, I extended it to a whole minute. In total, I ran 4.17 miles at an 8’42″ pace.
4. I’ve been spending some time online searching out other running events in the Jacksonville area and ran across the St. Augustine 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon.
My family and I have been fortunate enough to spend some time in St. Augustine and and it’s absolutely gorgeous! It’s America’s oldest city, founded in 1565 by Spanish explorer and admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés, it is the oldest continuously occupied European-established city and port in the continental United States. (Thank you, Wikipedia!)
When my parents were in Florida to help us get setup, we spent the day exploring the city and I would love to participate in a scenic run through the city.
5. Reading Corner
I finished reading a handful of books lately; some were for pleasure and some were from the River City Science Academy 9th grade summer reading list:

- The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
- Heaven by Angela Johnson
- The Red Scarf Girl by Ji-li Jiang
- (reread) The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
Books that I am currently enjoying:
- Wild by Cheryl Strayed
- Marcelo in the Real World by Francisco Stork
- The Skinny Rules by Bob Harper
