Five Things Friday

Happy Friday, Fancy Oatmeal Readers!

I am down to my last Friday before the big move to Florida begins and I’m WIPED OUT! Let’s just say that unless by some miracle someone has made a movie about male dancers staring some muscular hotties, I’ve lost my will to go on.

I’m somehow refreshed.

Anyways, let’s get right to the five of this particular Friday!

1. This morning I made some to-die-for granola!

I don’t think I’ll ever be able to enjoy yogurt quite the same without the cinammony with a slight hint of salty taste. I hear you’re supposed to be able to store it on your shelf for up to a month, but what nut job is able to ration out their baked goods for more than week, two at best???

Ok, maybe I should take it a bit easier.

2. My run this morning was pretty good, and then this young lady reminded me that I desperately needed to update my running log page on my ol’ website. Thank you for the reminder and I was able to put everyone to sleep bring everybody up to speed.

3. Remember when my parents’ dining room looked like this?

Well now it looks like this after I spent 3 hours locked in that room:

Where the H did it all go???

Oh, right! That’s where I left it!

4. While out and about yesterday, I decided to empty our bank accounts go shopping at Target. While I was there, I decided to pick up a few more of the Champion sports bras to replace a few that have seen their better days. They have a new color style that caught my eye, so I picked up three. Why buy one when it’s better to buy three? Am I right or am I right?

This is the one that I purchased and wore today:

After I put it on, I’m not so sure it’s the right color palette for me…but then again?

Might as well keep it all in the “partially sun kissed” theme.

I also bought this running skirt and it worked out like a charm.

Thank you Target for saving me a little bit of money on individual items at least.

5. Tonight is Date Night, and Dear Hubby and I are going out to see the new Mark Wahlberg movie, Ted.

Think we’ll be able to get a lil love for the circa 1990s crowd???

Don’t toy with me, Playa.

Monday Morning Madness

Welcome to another week, Fancy Oatmeal Readers.  I warn you that today’s agenda has absolutely no rhyme or reason to it, other than it’s the order to which things appeared in my head and slithered down and out of my fingers.  So without further explanation or apologizing, here we go!

1.  Saturday afternoon was filled with a trip to heaven AKA Whole Foods.

There are only four stores in Michigan, and I think the entire state decided to visit the Ann Arbor location because they heard that I was going to be there to sign laptops and copies of Fifty Shades of Grey.  Sadly nobody showed up to my booth so I was forced to shop instead.  I picked up some staple items that needed to be replaced from our move from Alaska, and while I was in the oatmeal department, I picked up a few boxes of Three Sisters flavored oatmeal.

I wanted to be adventurous, and when you’re such the wild child that I am, buying a new variety of oatmeal just about does the trick.

Simply add water in their pre measured pouch, and 2 minutes out of the microwave later: BREAKFAST!

I love Chai tea and Chai lattes, so I knew that I would be enjoying not only the smells but the tastes of today’s breakfast.

It was not overly sweet and I was left feeling very satisfied with the meal.

2.  Sunday’s run was shared with my Cousin Rick, and even though I love the guy to death, I was a total nut bag for agreeing to run with him.

The man is a beast and inspires me on every run.  He lives a very healthy and active lifestyle, so he’s constantly pushing his body, and when he straps on his running shoes, he kills it every time.  Last summer he ran the Twilight 5k, no not THAT Twilight (although having a shirtless Jacob shouting words of encouragement along the route wouldn’t have been so bad now that I think about it…) anyways, Rick came in 2nd in his age division and probably had time for a shower and nightcap before my big butt lumbered across the finish line.  Anyways, we chose to run along the Lansing River Trail, and thankfully Rick let me get in a few walking breaks, but he kept me motivated and it paid off.

The best gift that I could ask for, running arena or life in general, is motivation and that’s what I got.  Thank you, Rick.

3.  After I logged into my computer to sync my run and check in on Facebook, I noticed that my other cousin Stephanie is going to be participating in a lil something called a Color Run.  I have been wanting to participate in a Color Run since I first heard about it via Pinterest last year.

What is the Color Run?
The Color Run is a one of a kind experience that is less about speed and more about enjoying a color crazy day with your friends and family. Our events, are all about people of all different speeds, ages, shapes, and sizes toeing the start line. Whether you are a casual morning mall walker or an Olympic athlete, the 3 miles of the Color Run course will be the most enjoyable real estate you’ve traveled in a VERY long time.  You will love this Color Dash of fun!

How does it work?
The Color Run pretty much has 2 SIMPLE rules. 1. White shirts (any mostly white T will work great) mandatory at the start line and 2. Color plastered EVERYTHING at the finish!  Runner/walkers begin the 5k at the start line like a brand new pristine coloring book, they end looking like they fell into a Willy Wonka… tie dyed… vat of colored goodness.

What is the Color?
Each kilometer of the event is associated with a designated color.  1k is yellow, 2k is blue, 3k is green, 4k is pink, and the 5k finish is a “Color Extravaganza.”

As the runners/walkers hit the Kilometer COLOR RUNZones, they will be blitzed by our volunteers, sponsors, and staff with COLOR.  The color is a special “elf made” recipe of magical color dust.  All products are 100% natural and safe.  You can eat the stuff if you’d like (we have tried it and don’t suggest it, it is surprisingly high in calories and leaves a chalky aftertaste).  See the diagram below for the COLOR RUN ZONE specifics:

(Thank you thecolorrun.com for explaining that in a much more concise and easily discernible fashion than I could due to my excitement and coffee-induced Jitter Hands)

My little face was so sad when I saw that all the dates for Michigan were after Dear Hubby and I will be moving to Florida.

But then I perked right back up when I saw that there would be a race held in the Tampa/St. Pete area the day after my birthday!!!  So I ran into the front room to burst eardrums tell Dear Hubby all about it!

Me: Wanna know what I want for my birthday?????  (Only 6 months away)

Dear Hubby: Sure.

Me: Remember when I told you about the Color Run?

DH: No.

Me: Sure you do!  It’s when they throw balloons of colorful water at you while you run. (Totally inaccurate)

DH: Why would you want to do that?

Me: Cuz it’s awesome.  Duh.  Anyways, they’re going to have a Color Run on December 15th!

DH: And that’s how you want to spend your birthday?

Me:  YEA!

DH: Do I have to run too?

Me: Not if you don’t want to be AWESOME!

DH: I’m at my limit of awesome, but yea, you should do it!

Hence:

Instead of Running

Today was scheduled to be a rest day, which I greatly appreciated after running my fastest 8 miles (1:05:50) on Sunday.  Plus, I wouldn’t want to shock my body after my strenuous DVR marathon.  Instead, I followed the “Fitness at Home” workout I found on Pinterest.

I did the circuit three times through, which It took me about twenty five minutes.  I made the most of that short workout time.

This totaled:

180 Jumping Jacks

60 pushups

150 high knees

21 burpees

60 crunches

42 squats

3 minutes of wall-sitting

And now a breakfast favorite:

1/2 C. of old fashioned oats

7 strawberries

1 C. soy milk

1/2 Tbsn Maranatha Almond Butter
