Tuesday Morning Confessions

I have to confess some things to you this morning.

Shame

1.  Tonight is my very first book club meetup, very first time meeting all of the girls in it, and I did not finish our book, Cloud Atlas.

I asked you last week, via poll, what I should do about this shameful situation, and I agree with you: my game plan is total honesty.  I’ll just promise promise to finish the next book (as long as it’s not another 500 pager).

And I promise to you guys that I WILL indeed finish reading Cloud Atlas because once I got past a few of the cookier chapters, it’s actually a really good book and has been able to keep my attention, which isn’t easy to do as a book.

2.  I indulged in sweets last night.

Our friend, Chris from Pittsburgh, who visited us over the weekend brought a little something for Dan and I for hosting him.  He bought us a bag of Peanut Butter Cup flavored popcorn from a shop called, appropriately, Pittsburgh Popcorn.

Let me just say that I’m 1,000% thankful that this shop is all the way up in Pittsburgh because I could do some serious wardrobe damage with this stuff!  Just checkout the list of the upcoming flavors:

Flavors

I would give my hand for a bucket of that Chocolate Smoked Sea Salt!  Oh wait!  I’m supposed to be sad about this….hold on…

And let me tell you, after a week of not having the hardcore sweets, my body definitely responded to the extra sugar in my system…didn’t like it.  It was a good reminder of my goals.

But I won’t be too hard on myself…at least I tattled on myself, unlike these shameful mugs:

Murphy’s Law and Running Issues

Morning Workout: 4 miles @ 31:24

This morning’s run was ok.  I felt like it could have gone a lot better, mostly mentally.  I’ve been trying some new things in my commencement back into running after being dead down with the flu for a week and a half.  One things is breaking my reading dependence while running distances longer than four miles.  I made a new 5k play list, as well as started listening to podcasts via my iPod nano.  It’s been going ok thus far, except for this morning.  Something must have been going haywire in my iPod because after hitting the “Start Run” button, the volume would automatically be set to zero, or mute.  I turned up the volume with the buttons, but as soon as I found the desired sound level, it would automatically slide back down to zero!  WTF!!  Not only was this supremely irritating, it was also DANGEROUS!  I was clipping along at my 7’40″ pace at 5am on a treadmill.  I’m not bright enough to pause my workout and fix my technology issues at a standstill.  Thankfully, it only took the first mile and a half for the vulgar threats I was making to sink into the nano and the volume stayed where I told the $!@#* to.

Some may call that Murphy’s Law – whatever could possible goes wrong does at the least opportune time.  That may not be a true M.L. situation, but these are:

Thanks for these truisms/Murphy’s Law quips, Alissa.

In non-running-but-no-less-a-Murphy’s-Law-example news, just when Dear Hubby and I both have the time to devote to watching both our teams, Michigan State and the Cincinnati Bearcats play in the Sweet Sixteen, our satellite dish went out, rendering us totally helpless and unable to watch the games.  Or maybe it was a blessing since both teams were knocked out of the tournament.

Have you fallen victim to Murphy’s Law lately? If so, what?

Protein Much?

Aren’t moms the best?  I have been blessed with an absolutely wonderful mother who takes wonderful care of me, and my husband.  And I should also mention that my mother-in-law is no slouch when it comes to the care-giving department.  Dear Hubby and I are never in need for any treats because the awesome motherly duo keeps us well stocked.  And today was no exception.

Remember when I mentioned feeling less than, and my attempt to kickstart my normal self was to take better care to include enough protein in my diet?  I also whined told my mom about it, and check out this care package of love and fortified goodness:

Included in my health-i-fied care package was: two single-serving Barney Butter almond butter packets, one Larabar, two Spiru-tein single serve protein packets, 15 cans of chicken breast, and a bottle of Iron supplements.  I have naturally low levels of iron in my blood, and the fact that I don’t eat red meat doesn’t help either.  There aren’t many sources of dark green leafy veggies available on the island, so I have to supplement in my iron intake.

Oh yea, and there was something else.  And this is the first that Dear Hubby is hearing about this gift.  We’ll see if he reads the blog without me asking him to =)

In other super thrilling news, I switched from blueberries to strawberries in my oatmeal.  Sorry, I shoulda given a better warning to the excitement level.  I hope nobody spilled their coffee or did a spit take.  I guess I will have to start chopping up the frozen berries before mixing them into my oatmeal because my standard oatmeal bowl (AKA an old almond butter jar) was overflowing.  Me being the genius that I am, I tried to screw on the top anyways, and it blurbed over the top and made a mess.  #FirstWorldProblems.

I did manage to take a photo to show you how voluminous my oatmeal was.  I refused to take a photo of the mess.  And when I say mess, I mean myself for making that poor decision.
